11th June saw the release of The Fifth Element on Blu-ray in the films originating country, France.
The 1 disc release contains minimal extra features, just a 25 making of documentary, which is likely to have been released before. It’s claimed that the disc includes English audio, in addition to the French, with French subtitles, but it isn’t clear whether these are forced subtitles or optional.
So far, the only Blu-ray releases of The Fifth Element have been disappointing single disc affairs with little or no extra features. Even the DVD editions, despite a lot of features, never really provided the in-depth detail that fans wanted. The Fifth Element deserves a BD package on par with the Blade Runner, Gladiator, The Ultimate Matrix Collection and many other films which have excellent picture and audio, and all the bells and whistles.
