So far, the only Blu-ray releases of The Fifth Element have been disappointing single disc affairs with little or no extra features. Even the DVD editions, despite a lot of features, never really provided the in-depth detail that fans wanted. The Fifth Element deserves a BD package on par with the Blade Runner, Gladiator, The Ultimate Matrix Collection and many other films which have excellent picture and audio, and all the bells and whistles.

Of course, I would like to see Luc Besson get involved and approve the HD transfer and play a big part in the extra features.

Disc One
Feature Film
Commentry by Luc Besson, Patrice Ledoux and Robert Mark Kamen
Commentry by Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, Ian Holm, Chris Tucker and Milla Jovovich
Character Connections – Track the progress of all major characters though the film.

Disc Two
It Must be Found Documentary: The Making of The Fifth Element – A 2 hour documentary covering everything during the early planning stages, to pre-production, production and post production, along the lines of the Alien Quadrilogy, Blade Runner, Kingdom of Heaven etc docs.
The Art of The Fifth Element Featurette – A look at the designs and concepts for the film.
Visual Effects Featurette – A long at how Digital Domain brought New York into the 23rd Century, the challenges faced at a time when CG was just getting going, and how the film has influenced visuals since.
It Must not Be Found – A short guide on keeping The Fifth Element under wraps, with only minimal images released.
The Sixth Element Featurette – This would obviously need Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen to discuss how they broke up the script and reveal where the second film would have been heading. Details on the original ending for the filming would be very useful as well.

Disc Three
Full Version of opera Song -
Cannes MTV Special – The same footage that has already been released on multiple DVDs.
Deleted Scenes with commentary – There are obviously scenes that were cut due to editing decisions, but it would be good to see what Luc had considered but felt was better left off the screen.
World Premieres Archive Footage – The film received a lot of attention when released, so any footage of the worldwide premiers would be good to see.
Bloopers & Outtakes – The usual on set fluff ups.
Teaser & Theatrical Trailers – The countless trailers all together in one place.
TV spots – Again all the TV spots in one place.
Poster Gallery – High quality scans of the posters.
Promotional Picture Gallery – Again, there were specific photos sent out to the press to prevent the story being revealed, so seeing these in HD would be good.
Easter Egg – A reveal of who voiced Finger and Korben’s mum.

Look out for further updates on this wish list!

Every five thousand years, a door opens between the dimensions. In one dimension lies the universe and all of its multitude of varied life forms. In another exists an element made not of earth, air, fire or water, but of anti-energy, anti-life. This “thing,” this darkness, waits patiently at the threshold of the universe for an opportunity to extinguish all life and all light. The weapon against this evil is housed in a temple in Egypt. The weapon is activated by bringing together the five elements of the universe: the first four are water, fire, earth, and air, which are embodied in the form of small triangular stones, which must be united with the fifth one: life – embodied in a Perfect Being. The five elements together produce the Divine Light, which vanquishes the Ultimate Evil for another five thousand years.

From this timeless cult classic sci-fi movie we have created this amazing set of Elemental stones, surrounding the central statue – The Fifth Element. Each stone is approx 9″ tall and is presented on a display base themed around the Egyptian temple from the movie, positioned around the Fifth Element. The Fifth Element statue is approx 12″ tall. 14″ overall height including base.

There are only going to be 150 produced.

The Fifth Element comes to UMD for PlayStation Portable in the UK. There are no special features, just the film, which has been cropped from the original 2:35:1 to 1.78:1, so that the picture completely fits the screen.

Interestingly, the box features the BBFC “PG” logo and the Irish Film Censors “12″ logo, which is illegal under BBFC rules as both logos can only appear when the rating is the same.
